MIDISS Kick-off Meeting Project Review Board

On 27th May 2025, the kick-off meeting of the MIDISS Project Review Board was held at the HPDP, marking an important milestone in the implementation of this EU-funded initiative. The Project Review Board brought together key stakeholders in Malta that are essential for the successful completion of the new Public Health IT Surveillance System of MIDISS.
After welcoming words from the Superintendent of Public Health and chairman to the board, Prof. Charmaine Gauci, the meeting outlined the role of the Board, presented the project’s work packages, and highlighted upcoming activities requiring active involvement from the various sectors. Discussions addressed potential integration with national and EU-level data systems and key technical considerations, including data quality. The meeting concluded with stakeholders expressing valuable insights and strong support for the creation of an integrated IT surveillance system to enhance infectious disease monitoring in Malta. 


About MIDISS

Summary
The Malta Infectious Diseases Integrated Surveillance System (MIDISS) is part of the EU4Health Direct Grant for Member States to strengthen and improve national surveillance systems. MIDISS will include the acquisition of a cutting-edge Public Health Surveillance IT infrastructure equipped with automated and secure data loading from various sources, storage in a secure data warehouse, automated data transformation scripts, alongside an intuitive user dashboard for the visualisation and creation of routine and configurable ad-hoc surveillance outputs. Furthermore, vector-borne surveillance and translation services for case managers will be established in Malta.

Aim of Grant: to establish a comprehensive framework for real-time monitoring, early detection, and effective management of public health challenges, thereby strengthening the EU's capacity to safeguard the well-being of its citizens.
